FIRST STEP
If you want to be an egg donor, the first thing you need is to get in touch with us. So, we will set an appointment with you to take some blood tests and calculate your body mass index (BMI). With this tests we can determine if your ovarian reserve has the right amount of eggs to donate.
TALKING WITH OUR EXPERTS
The next meeting will be with one of our experts to talk about the donation, your and your family medical history. We may take an ultrasound to visualize your uterus, ovaries and a general physical exam. We must also perform blood and urine tests to verify that you are eligible to be a donor.
CONSENT AND MEDICATION
When we have the results of your exams, it's time to meet you again. Our nurses will show you a series of necessary consents you'll have to accept and sign. Also, we will give you the medications that will help your ovary to produce eggs.
'MATCHING' DONOR
At this stage, we are looking to 'match' with a woman who is waiting for a donor with similar caracteristics as her. Once we do 'match', we will synchronize your eggs with her cycle. An embryo can be transferred when the uterus of the receiver is in the correct phase. This happens within a few days after you have donated your eggs.
BE READY FOR THE DONATION
Once we have synchronized the cycles, we begin to administer the medication to stimulate your ovaries to produce eggs. This involves daily injections and visits to the clinic to check your hormone levels and make sure the follicles are growing in your ovaries. We hope that the majority of follicles contain an egg.
COLLECTING YOUR EGGS
When the follicles have grown enough, the eggs are ready to be collected. This process is performed by our experts under sedation or, sometimes, general anesthesia. This procedure takes around 30 - 45 minutes and we use a fine needle to aspirate the follicles inside the ovaries and find the eggs.
